Strength training after a back injury · Mountain View
Back to training, without guessing.
Your back has settled down, but you're not sure what's safe to load again. At Siena Physio, a Doctor of Physical Therapy assesses how you move first. Then Movement Coaches help you rebuild strength in groups of six or fewer.

Sound familiar?
The pain is better. The confidence isn't.
- You rested it and it got better, but you still hesitate every time you bend down.
- You finished physical therapy, and now you're on your own.
- Big group classes move fast, and nobody is watching how you move.
How it works
A clear path back to strong.
Start with a Strength Assessment
45 minutes one-on-one with Amy, a Doctor of Physical Therapy. We talk through your back history, look at how you bend, squat, carry and brace, and decide where to start. Your $50 is credited toward training.
Rebuild the movements you've been avoiding
Instead of steering around bending and carrying forever, we build them back up. You train foundational movements, scaled to where your back is today, and progress as it gets stronger.
Six people or fewer
Your coach can watch every rep and adjust the load, range or movement on the spot, so you're never left guessing whether something is okay.
Physio in the same building
If something needs a closer look, a Doctor of Physical Therapy is right here for a Physio Evaluation. No referral needed.
Is this right for me?
Where to start.
A good fit for small group training
- Your back pain has settled or is mild and predictable.
- You've finished physical therapy, or a doctor has cleared you to exercise.
- You want to get stronger so it doesn't keep coming back.
Start with a Physio Evaluation if
- Pain is limiting your daily activities.
- You've had back surgery or a new injury in the last six months.
- You have numbness, tingling or weakness in your legs.
Questions about training with back pain.
Is strength training safe after a back injury?
For many people whose back pain has settled, a gradual, well-coached strength program is a normal part of getting back to everyday life. It isn't right for everyone, which is why you start with a Strength Assessment. We look at your history and how you move, then tell you honestly whether to start with training or with a Physio Evaluation.
Will I have to deadlift?
Only if you want to. Deadlifts can be great movements, but we only have you do movements that suit you. If you'd rather not, we have plenty of other strengthening exercises.
Do I need a referral or a doctor's note?
No referral is needed for the Strength Assessment. If a doctor or surgeon has given you limits, bring them and we'll follow them. If a doctor has told you to avoid exercise, please get their okay before you start.
I've had back surgery. Can I train at Siena Physio?
Yes, once your surgeon has cleared you for exercise. If your surgery was in the last six months, we'll usually suggest starting with a Physio Evaluation and moving into small group training from there.
Where are you located?
